Pride Lives in Hungary

Victor Orbán, pro-Russia leader of Hungary since 2010, attempted to ban the gay pride march that has taken place annually for 30 years. His Fidesz party passed legislation banning such gatherings and threatened participants with fines and jail.

On Saturday June 28, 2025, despite a police ban, the annual pride march took place in the Hungarian capital of Budapest. An estimated 200k Hungarians marched, the largest demonstration in 30 years.

Victor Orbán and neighboring pro-Russia leader Aleksandar Vučić of Serbia are seeing the largest protests against their rule in decades. Along with neighboring pro-Russia leader Robert Fico of Slovakia, these three leaders are ripe and overdue for removal.
