In 2019, President Trump sought to coerce Ukraine into investigating Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. Hunter Biden had been appointed to the Board of Burisma Holdings, a private natural gas producer in Ukraine. Burisma Holdings and other companies paid Hunter Biden millions. Trump sought dirt to discredit Joe Biden ahead of the 2020 election by suggesting Hunter Biden was corruptly peddling his father’s influence. It was a clear violation of US law for Trump to ask a foreign government to become involved in a US election.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine was sworn into office in May 2019. Just two months later, Trump threatened to withhold $400M in congressionally approved aid to Ukraine unless they investigated Joe and Hunter Biden. President Zelenskyy refused to be extorted by Trump. As promised, Trump withheld the aid. After an uproar, Trump released the aid to Ukraine.
This scandal resulted in the House of Representatives impeaching Trump on December 18, 2019; only the third impeachment of an American President in history. (Trump was again impeached by the House of Representatives on February 13, 2021, for his attempt to remain in power by inciting an insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, 2021).
Ukraine has suffered Trump’s revenge every day under Trump’s pro-Russia second term. Trump has cut aid for Ukraine to zero, while only offering to sell them arms, indirectly through NATO. In a White House visit on February 28, 2025, Trump deliberately sought to publicly humiliate Zelenskyy. Predictably, Trump sold out Ukraine at his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15, 2025.
Trump’s lust for revenge against those who cross him is a sickness that makes him unfit for office and removable under the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution.
